Primary Scene: Brooklyn/New York

Drummer and composer Weasel Walter is originally from the Chicago-area, where, together with Hal Russell, they founded the band The Flying Luttenbachers. The band involved a number of area musicians, including Ken Vandermark, Jeb Bishop, Fred Lonberg-Holm, Dylan Posa, and Michael Colligan, and drew upon influences from no wave, death metal, free jazz, gamelan, noise, punk, and classical. Walter moved to San Francisco in 2003, where he continued leading the band, drawing in new talent such as Mike Green, Ed Rodriguez, and Mick Barr. The band eventually dissolved in late 2007.

Walter moved to New York City in 2009, where he joined the band ‘Behold … the Arctopus’ and also formed the band Cellular Chaos. He has immersed himself in the creative music scene since his arrival, with notable collaborations with Mary Halvorson and Peter Evans. He has also played with figures such as Evan Parker, Elliot Sharp, John Butcher, Vinny Golia, Joe Morris, Frank Gratkowski, and Jim O’Rourke.
