Matt Pavolka has been an active musician on the New York scene since 2003. He played in a number of sideperson contexts during his early years, including work with Ohad Talmor, Chris Cheek, and the band Imaginary Homelands. In 2006, he founded the Matt Pavolka Band with Ben Monder (guitar), Pete Rende (piano), and Ted Poor (drums). After playing for a number of years with that band and recording his first record as a leader, he later founded the Matt Pavolka Horns Band in 2011 with Kirk Knuffke (cornet), Jacob Garchik (trombone), Loren Stillman (alto saxophone), and Mark Ferber (drums).
