Primary Scene: Brooklyn/New York

Originally from Virginia, alto saxophonist Darius Jones has been active on the New York scene since 2005. He built early associations with Mike Pride, William Hooker, Trevor Dunn, and Shayna Dulberger, but it was his work with pianist Cooper-Moore beginning in 2006 that brought him greater attention and critical acclaim. He formed a trio with the latter figure as well as Rakalam Bob Moses (drums), that released its first album in 2009. He formed another trio, with Adam Lane (bass) and Jason Nazary (drums), that released its first record in 2011. In 2010, he also formed a quartet with Matt Mitchell (piano), Trevor Dunn (bass), and Ches Smith (drums) that made its first release in 2012.
