Primary Scene: Brooklyn/New York

Originally from Norway, Eivind Opsvik has been one of the most active bass players on the New York scene since arriving in 1998. Early sideperson work with Kris Davis brought him into contact with a broad community of musicians. He is most well-known for his project Overseas, his duo Opsvik & Jennings, and his solo project. Opsvik formed Overseas, his first group as a leader, in 2002, which has had varied membership, but has included long-standing figures Jacob Sacks (piano, organ), Tony Malaby (sax), Kenny Wollesen (drums), and the recent addition of Brandon Seabrook (guitar). His duo with tunsemith and guitarist Aaron Jennings is an experimental pop band and has released three albums. Opsvik’s first solo album, a collaborative work with photographer Michelle Arcila, was released in 2013.

Opsvik has been incredibly active as a sideperson throughout his time in New York. He has performed with Tony Malaby’s Paloma Recio, Nate Wooley Quintet, Jesse Stacken Trio, Skuli Sverrison’s Seria, Two Miles A Day (record featuring: Jacob Sacks, Mat Maneri, Paul Motian), Jeff Davis Trio with Russ Lossing, Mary Halvorson’s Reverse Blue, Rocket Engine, Plainville, Kris Davis Trio, David Binney with Brian Blade and Craig Taborn, Tone Collector, and many other groups.
