Trombonist and pianist Brian Drye has been a mainstay on the New York scene since the dawn of the millennium. After spending his formative years touring the United States with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, Paul Anka, and the Four Tops, he has played an integral role in numerous Brooklyn-based groups including The Brooklyn Qawwali Party, Slavic Soul Party, Banda de los Muertos, Firewater, Nation Beat, Frank London’s Klezmer Brass, Stew, and the Negro Problem. He has also played with Clark Terry, John Hollenbeck, Kirk Knuffke, Andrew D’angelo, Ches Smith, Oscar Noriega, and Mark Helias. Drye holds a degree from the University of Miami.

Drye leads the group Bizingas and also performs regularly with the improvising chamber ensemble The Four Bags which has been performing worldwide since 1999. He co-leads the group Drye & Drye with his father, Howard, a baritone saxophonist. Additionally the junior Drye works with fellow bandmate Kirk Knuffke in a Cornet / Trombone duo format.

In 2008, Drye created Ibeam Brooklyn, a teaching, performance and rehearsal space for professional musicians and students located in the Gowanus area of Brooklyn. He works as a teaching artist at Carnegie Hall, has served as the Director of Jazz Studies at the Jewish Community Center in Tenafly, NJ, and is faculty in the Jazz Program at the Center for Preparatory Studies in Music at Queens College.

In 2016 Brian joined the Juilliard School as a music specialist where he facilitates music educators in implementing a Juilliard based curriculum in their schools. Brian offers professional development for teachers in composition, engagement and creative practice. For over 18 years, Brian has maintained a private studio for trombone, piano and theory to students of all ages and experience.

Brian recently joined the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music the as a the Program Director of the Community Music School where he is in charge of lessons, classes and ensembles for students ages 0-100.
