Free103point9 was a pirate radio station based in a loft in Williamsburg, first established in 1997 and later relocated to Greene County, NY, in 2005. Beginning in 2002, the station hosted a weekly Thursday night show called Needle Exchange, “featuring improvised performances, select cuts from new albums, and more.” It was the show free103point9 put together every week of recent live concerts and new experimental LPs and CDs. In August 2003, the station debuted free web streaming of events. From August 27-September 2, 2004, they provided live, around-the-clock coverage of the protests against the Republican National Convention in New York.

The earliest known live concerts occurred there in 1997, but details remain unknown. The venue was a key meeting place between free jazz, electronic, and experimental rock music.
